by SlowChic February 07, 2018

Who doesn't love vacationing under the Mediterranean sun, surrounded by clear, sparkling, aquamarine water? Whether you love lounging around getting a suntan or frolicking in the water, Sardinia has some great beaches that will undoubtedly satisfy your inner beach bum.

Here are six of the best beaches on the island:

Cala Mariolu

Located on Sardinia's Eastern coast, this beach is perfect for snorkelling. Secluded by large limestone embankments, Cala Moriolu offers a clear natural pool and a small beach. It's an ideal spot for watching the sunset over the Gulf of Orsei with your travelling buddies.

Costa Smeralda

The name Costa Smeralda translates to Emerald Coast. It's over 50 metres long and is dotted by 80 unspoiled bays and coves. Most of the most beautiful beaches can only be accessed by boat but there are quite a few that can be reached by car.

La Cinta

La Cinta is the longest and widest beach in Sardinia. With water as clear as crystal, the beach is popular among families with children because of its flatness. You can find some of the best scuba diving there. Surfers can also rent boards here or take classes. It gets very crowded during the peak of the tourist season but is idyllic and secluded during the slower months.

Sant Elmo

Sandy Sant Elmo is known for its pristine rocky bays, the stones of which have been polished by the ebb and flow of the waves. Walking inland from Sant Elmo, you will encounter forests and rugged terrain. This makes the area popular among eco-tourists.

Torre Salinas

Torre Salinas is located in a quieter section of Sardinia's southern coast. Unlike some of the other beaches on this list, it has ochre-coloured sand that's sprinkled with black crystals. There's always plenty of space to relax and roam here as it never gets too crowded, even at the busiest time in the tourist season. It's an ideal beach for children. The water is shallow and clear and they'll have lots of space to frolic as they please.
