Gorgeous B&B in the leafy heart of the island. A stay here is probably as close as you can get to real-Sardinia.

Hidden away among green rolling hills, the small cobbled village of Gergei is pretty much off the beaten tracks. Here a small family-run bed & breakfast oozes style and charm. The Domu Antiga surroundings are home to some of the last wild horses of Europe, millenary olive groves and endless pastures, as well as the best-maintained archaeological complexes of Sardinia.

Open from March to November

Double rooms start at 80 € per night. Use the calendars to verify the rate and availability on a specific date and to book online.

  • Father-and-son team Arnaldo and Samuel. Their hospitality is of the kind only genuine people who do this out of passion rather than profession can offer.
  • The cooking classes. Secure yourself a class of traditional Sardinian cooking, and use of a wood-fire oven.
  • The restoration. Once an ancient farmhouse, the Domu Antiga is an ode to old stones and local know-how

  • Olianas vineryards. Stock-up with Vermentino whites and Cannonau reds at Gergei’s local winemakers.
  • Local restaurants. Try restaurant Il Giardino in Suelli (+39 340 864 2198); and restaurant Il Vicoletto in Siurgus Donigala (+39 070 989 689).
  • Mulargia and Flumendosa lakes. Breathtaking trails criss-cross the dense macchia (Mediterranean scrub) and around the placid waters.

This is real Sardinia. A stay at the Domu Antiga is probably as close as you can get to real Sardinia. Whether for the location off the tourism map, or for your host Samuel and his family who take pride in cultivating and sharing their ancient traditions.

Breakfast: Depending of the season, the tasteful breakfast is served under the loggia, outside on the lawn or inside near the open fire – and with only 3 rooms there’s no risk of queuing for a table.
Restaurant: There is no restaurant at the Domu Antiga. There is a good family-fuelled pizzeria and restaurant, Da Tzia Matilda, just 200 meters away though.
Facilities: Garden, library.
Internet connection: Wi-fi is available in the entire B&B and is free of charge.
Pets: Pets are not allowed.

I think our favorite is Domu Antiga in Gergei. Both Samuel and his father could not have been more welcoming and informative. The rooms were comfortable and the whole atmosphere was warm and relaxing. We had Samuel's mother prepare dinner for us one of the nights and it was excellent! - Peggy, United States of America
