Small Luxury hotel with huge grounds and huge charisma set in Provence’s wild Camargue.

A SLOW-CHIC EXPERIENCE

In a secret angle of wild Camargue, sitting on roughly 1,250 acres of windswept ranch land with its own stretches of marsh and wild horses – the Mas de Peint is the ultimate Mas experience. The interior features rustic lounges personalized with family memorabilia, saddles and photos of the owner's prize-winning bulls and horses.

The outdoors are covered with vines, shaded by trellises of grapes and wisteria, and decorated with tiled planters overflowing with geraniums.

Open from April to December.

Double rooms start from 235 € per night. Use the calendar to find the rate and availability on a specific date and to book online.

WE LOVE

  • The glistening swimming pool, with fresh drinks and light lunches within reach. A heaven in the summer.
  • The immediate area. Being able to hide in the salt marshes and watch flamingos. And the wild beaches just a short drive away, too.

DON'T MISS

  • L'Estrambord restaurant. Grab lunch with the locals at the village restaurant, and join them for a game of petanque on the main square (+33 4 90 97 20 10).
  • A kite surf initiation at the Beauduc beach with Patrick from Absolut Kiteboarding club (+33 6 88 15 10 93)

THE BEST BIT

The food at Le Mas de Peint. Meals are served at just a few intimate tables in a large country kitchen in front of an open fireplace under 19th-Century beams, or on the garden terrace shaded by billowing white gauze. Menu is set and changes daily, it features sophisticated specialities that mostly rely on home-grown ingredients, such as roast beef from the farm’s own herd with Carmargue red rice and onion jam or excellent poultry and fresh fish dishes – all cooked in front of the guests.

NEED TO KNOW

Rooms: The 11 rooms and suites have beautifully preserved 400-year-old beams, carefully polished stone floors, and creamy linen fabrics all tastefully complemented by brass beds, claw-foot bathtubs, and natural, soft Provençal colours. Le Pigeonnier is the largest of all and spreads over two floors with a fireplace in the lounge, which opens out onto the garden.
Bar & Restaurant: Yes, that’s the best bit!
Pool: Yes.
